National inventory template (NIT)

Overview

The National Inventory Template (NIT) provides a twice-daily snapshot of blood component inventory levels across Australia. It helps transfusion laboratories understand current supply availability, identify any restrictions, and make informed stock management decisions.

The NIT includes:

  • Red Cells
  • Platelets
  • Fresh Frozen Plasma
  • Cryoprecipitate

FAQs

How do I subscribe or unsubscribe?

If you wish to be removed or added to the NIT distribution list, please email Lifeblood Communication.

How does the NIT affect specific patient named orders?

When the inventory status is displayed as ‘MO’, patient specific BloodNet orders are required.

All individual patient orders will be triaged and assessed by a Lifeblood Transfusion Medicine Specialist and managed on a case-by-case basis.

Do I need to do anything with the NIT report that I receive?

The NIT provides information to guide stock ordering and inventory management decisions.

Many laboratories display the report for staff awareness during periods of constrained supply.

Who do I contact for further information about the NIT?

Contact your local Transfusion Scientist or email Lifeblood Communication.
